Description
A festive and colorful dessert perfect for celebrating the 4th of July, featuring layers of red gelatin and fresh fruit.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups boiling water
- 2 (3-ounce) packages of red gelatin (strawberry or cherry)
- 2 cups cold water
- 2 cups blueberries
- 2 cups diced strawberries
- 2 cups whipped topping (optional for serving)
- 1 cup vodka (optional for boozy version)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, dissolve the red gelatin in the boiling water, stirring until completely dissolved.
- If making the boozy version, add the vodka to the cold water and mix it with the gelatin mixture. For the family-friendly version, simply add the cold water.
- Stir in the blueberries and diced strawberries into the gelatin mixture.
- Pour the mixture evenly into clear plastic cups or small glass jars, filling each about three-quarters full.
- Refrigerate the cups for at least 4 hours or until the gelatin is fully set.
- Once set, top each cup with a dollop of whipped topping if desired, and garnish with additional fruit for a festive touch.
Notes
- For a layered effect, prepare the red gelatin first, let it set, then add a layer of blue gelatin made with blue raspberry gelatin for a more colorful presentation.
- You can substitute the fruit with other berries like raspberries or blackberries for a different flavor profile.
