Description

Banh Mi Meatballs: A Flavorful Twist on Tradition!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1/4 cup grated carrot
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1 baguette, cut into 4 pieces
  • Sliced cucumber, for serving
  • Sliced jalapeños, for serving
  • Sliced radishes, for serving
  • Mayonnaise, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground pork, breadcrumbs, cilantro, grated carrot, garlic, fish sauce, soy sauce, brown sugar, black pepper, salt, and red pepper flakes (if using). Mix until well combined.
  2. Preheat a large skillet over medium heat and add vegetable oil.
  3. Form the meat mixture into 1-inch meatballs and carefully place them in the skillet. Cook for about 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned and cooked through.
  4. While the meatballs are cooking, slice the baguette pieces in half lengthwise.
  5. Once the meatballs are done, assemble the banh mi by placing a few meatballs inside each baguette piece. Top with sliced cucumber, jalapeños, radishes, and a generous spread of mayonnaise.
  6. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • For added crunch, consider adding pickled vegetables like carrots and daikon radish.
  • You can also swap ground pork for ground chicken or turkey for a lighter option.
