Description

Delicious Beef Wellington Turnovers filled with seasoned ground beef and served with a sweet chili wine sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup mushrooms, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1 package (1 pound) puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1/2 cup sweet chili sauce
  • 1/4 cup red wine
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic until the beef is browned and the onion is soft, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  3. Stir in the salt, pepper, thyme, Worcestershire sauce, and mushrooms. Cook for an additional 5 minutes until the mushrooms are tender. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  4. In a bowl, mix the beef mixture with the cream cheese until well combined.
  5. Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to about 1/8 inch thick. Cut into 4-inch squares.
  6. Place a tablespoon of the beef mixture in the center of each square. Fold the pastry over to form a triangle and seal the edges by pressing with a fork. Brush the tops with the beaten egg.
  7. Place the turnovers on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  8. While the turnovers are baking, prepare the sweet chili wine sauce. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine sweet chili sauce, red wine, and soy sauce. Bring to a simmer.
  9. Stir in the cornstarch mixture and cook until the sauce thickens, about 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat.
  10. Serve the turnovers warm with the sweet chili wine sauce drizzled on top.

Notes

  • For a healthier option, substitute ground turkey or chicken for the beef.
  • Add a handful of spinach or kale to the beef mixture for extra nutrients and flavor.
