Description
A rich and flavorful Bolognese sauce made with a blend of ground meats, vegetables, and herbs, perfect for serving over pasta.

- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 1 medium carrot, finely chopped
- 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 pound ground pork
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 cup dry white wine
- 1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)
- Grated Parmesan cheese for serving (optional)
Instructions
- In a large skillet or saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, carrot, and celery. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are softened and the onion is translucent.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
- Add the ground beef and ground pork to the pan. Cook, breaking up the meat with a spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes.
- Pour in the milk and let it simmer until it has mostly evaporated, stirring occasionally, about 10 minutes.
- Add the white wine and let it simmer until reduced by half, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, and basil. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer.
- Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce cook uncovered for at least 1 hour, stirring occasionally. For a richer flavor, simmer for up to 3 hours, adding a bit of water if the sauce gets too thick.
- Serve the Bolognese sauce over your favorite pasta, garnished with fresh basil and grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
Notes
- For a deeper flavor, try adding a bay leaf during the simmering process and remove it before serving.
- You can also substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version of the sauce.
