Description

Crispy Orange Chicken is a delightful dish featuring tender chicken pieces coated in a crunchy panko crust and tossed in a sweet and tangy orange sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 cup vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1 cup orange juice (freshly squeezed if possible)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon minced ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, and black pepper. Dredge the chicken pieces in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
  2. Dip the floured chicken pieces into the beaten eggs, then coat them with panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
  3. In a large skillet or deep frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the chicken pieces in batches, frying until golden brown and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes per batch. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  4. In a separate saucepan, combine the orange juice, sugar, soy sauce, rice vinegar, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  5. Once simmering, stir in the cornstarch mixture and cook until the sauce thickens, about 2-3 minutes.
  6. Toss the fried chicken pieces in the orange sauce until well coated. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a healthier version, bake the breaded chicken at 400°F for 20-25 minutes instead of frying.
  • Add steamed broccoli or bell peppers to the dish for extra color and nutrition.
