Description

A delicious homemade croissant bread recipe that is easy to follow and yields soft, flaky pastries.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup bread flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup whole milk, warmed to 110°F
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, bread flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture, softened butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  7. After the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll it into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick.
  8. Brush the melted butter over the surface of the dough.
  9. Fold the dough into thirds like a letter, then roll it out again into a rectangle. Repeat this folding and rolling process two more times.
  10. Cut the dough into 12 equal squares. Place each square into a greased muffin tin, tucking the corners in.
  11. Let the dough rise again for about 30 minutes.
  12. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, consider adding a tablespoon of almond extract to the dough.
  • You can also sprinkle some cinnamon and sugar on top before baking for a sweet twist.
