Description

Indulge in this easy recipe for Heavenly Cheese Danish, featuring a creamy filling wrapped in flaky puff pastry.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 sheets of puff pastry (thawed)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • Optional: fruit preserves or fresh fruit for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out each sheet of puff pastry to about 1/8 inch thick. Cut each sheet into 4 squares.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon. Mix until smooth and well combined.
  4. Place a generous tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each puff pastry square.
  5. Fold the corners of each square towards the center to create a diamond shape, pinching the edges to seal.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to create an egg wash. Brush the tops of the pastries with the egg wash.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
  8. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. If desired, top with fruit preserves or fresh fruit.

Notes

  • For a fruit-flavored filling, add a tablespoon of lemon zest or a few tablespoons of your favorite fruit preserves to the cream cheese mixture.
  • Drizzle a simple glaze made from powdered sugar and milk over the cooled pastries for an extra touch of sweetness.
