Description

Kashmiri Pink Chai is a traditional tea known for its unique pink color and rich flavor, perfect for tea time.


Ingredients

  • 4 cups water
  • 4 tablespoons green tea leaves (preferably Kashmiri green tea)
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • Chopped pistachios and almonds for garnish
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Add the green tea leaves and baking soda. Boil for about 10-15 minutes until the water reduces to about half.
  2. Remove the saucepan from heat and let the tea steep for an additional 5 minutes. Strain the tea into a bowl, discarding the leaves.
  3. Return the strained tea to the saucepan and add the milk and salt. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat.
  4. Once boiling, reduce the heat and simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. The tea should develop a rich pink color.
  5. Stir in the heavy cream, sugar, and ground cardamom. Simmer for another 5 minutes, adjusting sweetness if necessary.
  6. Remove from heat and let the chai cool slightly before serving. Pour into cups and garnish with chopped pistachios and almonds.

Notes

  • For a spicier chai, add a pinch of cinnamon or a few whole cloves during the simmering process.
  • You can substitute almond milk for a dairy-free version while maintaining the creaminess by adding a bit more heavy cream or coconut cream.
