- 1 pound skirt steak
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 8 small corn tortillas
- 1 cup diced onions
- 1 cup chopped cilantro
- 1 lime, cut into wedges
- Salsa or hot sauce (optional)
Instructions
- Begin by marinating the skirt steak. In a small bowl, mix together the olive oil, chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Rub this mixture all over the steak and let it marinate for at least 30 minutes at room temperature or up to 2 hours in the refrigerator for more flavor.
- Preheat your grill or a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. If using a skillet, add a little olive oil to prevent sticking.
- Once hot, place the marinated skirt steak on the grill or skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or longer if you prefer it more well-done.
- Remove the steak from the heat and let it rest for about 5 minutes. This helps the juices redistribute for a more tender bite.
- While the steak is resting, warm the corn tortillas on the grill or in a dry skillet for about 30 seconds on each side until pliable.
- Slice the rested steak against the grain into thin strips.
- Assemble the tacos by placing a few strips of steak on each tortilla. Top with diced onions and chopped cilantro. Squeeze fresh lime juice over the top and add salsa or hot sauce if desired.
- Serve immediately and enjoy your delicious skirt steak tacos!
Notes
- For added flavor, consider adding sliced avocado or crumbled queso fresco on top of the tacos.
- If you prefer a spicier kick, marinate the steak with diced jalapeños or add a spicy salsa as a topping.
