Description

A deliciously moist and sweet Amish Cinnamon Bread with a delightful cinnamon swirl, perfect for breakfast or a snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the cinnamon swirl:
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9×5-inch loaf pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, 1 ½ cups sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and 1 tablespoon cinnamon until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, mix the buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. In a small bowl, combine ½ cup sugar and 2 tablespoons cinnamon for the swirl mixture.
  6. Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pans. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the batter.
  7. Pour the remaining batter on top and finish with the rest of the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  8. Use a knife to gently swirl the batter and cinnamon mixture together.
  9. Drizzle the melted butter over the top of the loaves.
  10. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  11. Let the loaves cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For added texture, consider folding in 1 cup of chopped nuts or chocolate chips into the batter before baking.
  • You can substitute the buttermilk with regular milk mixed with 1 tablespoon of vinegar for a similar effect.
