Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Wash and peel the Yukon Gold potatoes, then thinly slice them.
  3. In a medium saucepan, combine the heavy cream, whole milk, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, and ground nutmeg. Heat over low, stirring until warmed through, about 5 minutes.
  4. Grease your baking dish with unsalted butter. Layer the sliced potatoes in a spiral pattern, sprinkle cheese, and pour the cream mixture over.
  5. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 50-60 minutes until potatoes are tender.
  6. Remove foil, switch oven to broil for 2-3 minutes until the cheese is golden brown.
  7. Let it cool for about 10 minutes before serving.
