Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Combine all-purpose flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper in a medium bowl.
  3. Set up a dipping station with buttermilk, the flour mixture, and panko breadcrumbs.
  4. Slice onions into 1/4 inch thick rings, dip in buttermilk, then coat with flour, dip again in buttermilk, and finally coat with panko breadcrumbs.
  5. Fry coated onion rings in batches for 2-3 minutes until golden brown, turning them halfway through.
  6. Remove fried onion rings and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  7. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces.
