  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 0.5 cups heavy cream or milk for lighter version
  • 0.5 cups crushed Oreo cookies

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a small bowl, mix buttermilk, white vinegar, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy using a hand mixer.
  5. Beat in the egg and red food coloring until fully combined.
  6. Gently alternate adding dry ingredients and buttermilk mixture to the batter, mixing until just combined.
  7. Fill each cupcake liner halfway with batter, press an Oreo into each, then cover with more batter.
  8. Bake for 20 minutes, cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  9. Beat together butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, a pinch of salt, and heavy cream to make frosting.
