Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup caramel sauce store-bought or homemade
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt for topping

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  5. Spread half of the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan. Drizzle half of the caramel sauce over the batter, then drop spoonfuls of the remaining batter on top. Drizzle the rest of the caramel sauce over the top and use a knife to swirl it gently into the batter.
  6. Sprinkle the sea salt evenly over the top of the bars.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow the bars to cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes before slicing into squares.
