  • 21 ounces Apple Pie Filling canned, optional
For the Cake
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar adjust according to sweetness of apples
  • 1 box Yellow Cake Mix
For the Flavor
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon optional
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon Juice optional when using canned apples
For the Topping
  • 1 cup Caramel Sauce store-bought or homemade
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter melted
  • 1/2 cup Chopped Pecans or Walnuts optional
For Serving
  • 4 scoops Vanilla Ice Cream or Whipped Cream optional

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel and slice fresh apples into thin wedges or open a can of apple pie filling.
  3. In a large bowl, combine apples with granulated sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Toss until well coated.
  4. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray. Spread the apple mixture evenly across the bottom.
  5. Drizzle caramel sauce over the apple mixture.
  6. Evenly sprinkle the yellow cake mix over the apple and caramel layers.
  7. Melt unsalted butter and drizzle it over the cake mix.
  8. Sprinkle chopped nuts over the mix if desired.
  9. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
  10. Allow to cool for about 10 minutes before serving.
