Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Peel and slice fresh apples into thin wedges or open a can of apple pie filling.
- In a large bowl, combine apples with granulated sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Toss until well coated.
- Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray. Spread the apple mixture evenly across the bottom.
- Drizzle caramel sauce over the apple mixture.
- Evenly sprinkle the yellow cake mix over the apple and caramel layers.
- Melt unsalted butter and drizzle it over the cake mix.
- Sprinkle chopped nuts over the mix if desired.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
- Allow to cool for about 10 minutes before serving.
