Steps
  1. Start by chopping 8 oz of pitted dates and soaking them in a bowl of boiling water for about 15 minutes.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 1 ½ cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and a pinch of salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat ½ cup of softened butter and 1 cup of brown sugar together using an electric mixer on medium speed for about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Add 2 large eggs to the creamed butter and sugar one at a time, beating well after each addition until fully incorporated.
  5. Gradually fold in the date paste followed by the flour mixture.
  6. Pour the batter into a greased 9-inch square baking dish and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 30-35 minutes.
  7. While the cake is baking, combine ½ cup of brown sugar, ½ cup of butter, and 1 cup of heavy cream in a saucepan over medium heat.
