Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, salt, and instant yeast. Stir until evenly mixed.
  2. Incorporate Wet Ingredients: Warm whole milk and add softened butter. Mix until dough starts to come together.
  3. Knead Dough: Knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Shape into a ball.
  4. First Rise: Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
  5. Roll & Encase Butter: Roll out into a large rectangle, place cold butter in the center, and fold edges over it.
  6. Folding Process: Roll out again and fold into thirds. Wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. Repeat this two more times.
  7. Shape the Loaf: Roll into a long rectangle, cut into strips, and shape them into desired style in a greased loaf pan.
  8. Second Rise: Cover and let rise in a warm space for about 30-45 minutes until puffy.
  9. Preheat Oven & Prepare Egg Wash: Preheat oven to 375°F. Whisk egg and milk for egg wash, and brush on the dough.
  10. Bake: Place in oven and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Cool: Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes then transfer to a wire rack.
