Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Prepare Eggs: Start by hard-boiling your large eggs; place them in a pot, cover with cold water, and bring to a boil over medium heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat and simmer for 9-10 minutes. Transfer the eggs to an ice bath for about 10 minutes to cool completely.
  2. Color the Eggs: In a mixing bowl, combine a few cups of water with black food coloring gel until the liquid is dark. Stir gently to ensure enough liquid to fully submerge your hard-boiled egg shells.
  3. Soak the Eggs: Submerge the cooled, cracked eggs into the coloring solution, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 3 hours, or overnight.
  4. Peel the Eggs: Rinse the eggs under cool running water while adding a splash of white vinegar. Carefully peel the eggs to unveil the spiderweb pattern.
  5. Make Yolk Filling: Slice each egg in half lengthwise and scoop out the yolks. Mash yolks with mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, kosher salt, and black pepper until smooth.
  6. Color the Mixture (Optional): For a festive touch, add drops of green or purple food coloring gel into the yolk mixture and stir well.
  7. Assemble the Eggs: Fill the egg whites with the yolk mixture. Use a spoon or piping bag to create decorative peaks.
  8. Garnish & Serve: Sprinkle eggs with smoked paprika, black sesame seeds, or chives. Serve chilled on a Halloween-themed platter.
