Step‑by‑Step Instructions
  1. In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium heat. Add 3 cloves of minced garlic and 1 small chopped shallot, sautéing for about 1 minute until fragrant and translucent.
  2. Introduce 1 pound of ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally until the beef is fully browned.
  3. Stir in 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce, 1 teaspoon of brown sugar, and ½ teaspoon of chili flakes. Let the mixture simmer for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Remove the skillet from the heat and stir in 1 tablespoon of fresh lime juice and 1 cup of chopped Thai basil. Allow the mixture to cool slightly.
  5. Set up a rolling station with a shallow dish of warm water and your beef filling nearby. Have any optional add-ins ready.
  6. Dip one rice paper wrapper into the warm water for about 5-10 seconds until it becomes pliable yet slightly firm. Lay the wrapper flat.
  7. Place a small amount of the beef filling at the bottom of the rice paper wrapper. You can add herbs and veggies for extra crunch.
  8. Fold the bottom of the wrapper up over the filling, tuck in the sides, and roll tightly away from you.
  9. Continue the soaking and rolling process with the remaining rice paper wrappers and filling.
  10. Slice the rolls in half for a stunning presentation and serve with your choice of dipping sauce.
